Dongseo University is a specialized school for film and imagery. In 2007, we invited Director IM Kwon-taek to be the Professor Emeritus to foster global film professionals and founded Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts. In addition, we established Im Kwon Taek Film Archive & Research Center and began a full-scale research on Director IM and the Korean cinema. In 2013, we expanded and relocated Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts to the newly built Centum Campus in Haeundae, Busan, the hub of the film and image industry. Moreoever Im Kwon Taek Film Museum was opened.
Director IM Kwon-taek let the world know of Korean traditions and aesthetics. He is a world-renowned master director who produced films that offer a deep insight into the direction people must take in life, gaining universal understanding from all around the world. Since he stepped into the film world in the 1950s until now, having produced 101 films, IM has created a profound and abundant world of cinema, which is rather extraordinary. Therefore, we founded Im Kwon Taek Film Museum to preserve these precious cultural treasures so that they can be appreciated by all those who love and admire films.
Im Kwon Taek Film Museum houses rare items that Director IM personally donated, as well as over 10000 items, such as film-related documents, photographs, video clips, and motion pictures that had been collected at home and abroad. These collections are open to public in six exhibition halls. I hope that visitors to this museum from all over the world can come and fill their hearts with the light and spirit of IM Kwon-taek’s films.
Thank you.
